چکیده

A regularized boundary integral equation for exterior Stokes flow around rigid bodies in three dimensions is studied. The formulation is based on a free-space solution of the Stokes equations with concentrated, but smooth forcing and involves two regularization parameters that control the behavior of the free-space solution and the conditioning of the integral equation. The smooth free-space solution is known as a regularized stokeslet and has been employed by various authors in the numerical treatment of Stokes flow problems. Convergence theorems are established for the regularization error associated with the formulation and for the discretization error associated with its subsequent numerical approximation by Nyström methods. The results show that the overall method provides a convergent approximation of the Stokes equations as the regularization and discretization parameters are refined along suitable paths.

The method of regularized Stokeslets in three dimensions: Analysis, validation, and application to helical swimming

The method of regularized Stokeslets is a Lagrangian method for computing Stokes flow driven by forces distributed at material points in a fluid. It is based on the superposition of exact solutions of the Stokes equations when forces are given by a cutoff function. We present this method in three dimensions, along with an analysis of its accuracy and performance on the model problems of flow pa...

Simulation of Flexible Fibers in Stokes Flow

When elastic fibers are immersed in a Newtonian fluid, the behavior of the system, or the “fiber suspension” becomes non-Newtonian. Understanding the dynamics of such systems is of particular interest in a wide variety of fields, including locomotion of microorganisms, paper and pulp industry, microfluidics etc. When these fibers are immersed in the fluid at low Reynolds number, the elastic equ...

Optimization of Solution Regularized Long-wave Equation by Using Modified Variational Iteration Method

In this paper, a regularized long-wave equation (RLWE) is solved by using the Adomian's decomposition method (ADM) , modified Adomian's decomposition method (MADM), variational iteration method (VIM), modified variational iteration method (MVIM) and homotopy analysis method (HAM). The approximate solution of this equation is calculated in the form of series which its components are computed by ...

Propulsion of microorganisms by a helical flagellum.

The swimming of a bacterium or a biomimetic nanobot driven by a rotating helical flagellum is often interpreted using the resistive force theory developed by Gray and Hancock and by Lighthill, but this theory has not been tested for a range of physically relevant parameters. We test resistive force theory in experiments on macroscopic swimmers in a fluid that is highly viscous so the Reynolds n...

Kernel-Independent Fast Multipole Method within the framework of Regularized Stokeslets

The method of regularized Stokeslets (MRS) uses a radially symmetric blob function of infinite support to smooth point forces and allow for evaluation of the resulting flow field. This is a common method to study swimmers at zero Reynolds number where the Stokeslet is the fundamental solution corresponding to the kernel of the single layer potential. Simulating the collective motion of N micro ...
